Obanzai Shion
A moment to unwind in the city.
From obanzai small plates and set meals to spiced chicken wings and rice balls, Obanzai Shion has options for a full meal or an evening drink. Try a tasting set pairing 3 local sake with 2 small dishes.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Whether you fancy a drink with obanzai small plates or a satisfying set meal, Obanzai Shion offers choices for both eating and drinking. One solo diner singled out the solid-wood counter, the delicious rice and the tender, flaky texture of the cutlassfish.
For a meal, options include the house-style fried chicken and rice balls with either salted or kelp seasoning. You can also choose several obanzai dishes, such as simmered quail eggs, nanohana greens with mustard miso and gently simmered napa cabbage. One diner said they particularly enjoyed the fried chicken. Put together a set meal when you want something hearty, or opt for obanzai, dried stingray fin or Uwajima jakoten fish cakes for a lighter evening snack.
For a drink, the mini local-sake tasting set comes with 3 recommended sakes and 2 small dishes for 1,000 yen. It is a handy way to compare different labels and see how they pair with the food. The selection includes Hanagaki, described as having a fresh aroma and rounded umami, and Koshino-Kanbai, noted for its clean, light taste and refined rice aroma. Beer and chuhai are also available, with obanzai dishes to match.
